The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests. The theme for 2018 is Forests and Sustainable Cities. LOCAL CITIZENS ABOUT THE BIAŁOWIEŻA FOREST Nearly 96 % of the surveyed citizens of the municipalities located in the Białowieża Forest is all for removing dead trees standing along roads and tourist trails in the Białowieża Forest – except the area of national park and reserves – shows the opinion poll taken by PBS (Social Research Department) at the turn of November and December 2017. FORESTS FOR NATIONAL PARKS In the past two years, the national parks in Poland received in total PLN 112 million. Quite big support has been granted to two parks in the Podkarpackie province which are located next to forest districts of the Krosno RDSF: the Bieszczady NP and the Magurski NP. The subsidy came from the forest fund, that is the money earned by the State Forests mainly through the sales of wood. Warsaw Integrated Programme of Work approved during Las2017 joint session During the recently ended meeting of the representatives of countries included in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the Warsaw Integrated Programme of Work has been approved. European Forest Week begins Already on Monday, 9 October, the European Forest Week begins. This year it is organized and hosted by Poland. European Forest Week will take place in Warsaw A joint session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Committee on Forests and the Forestry Industry and the FAO European Forestry Commission will be held in Warsaw on 9‑13 October 2017. The session will be accompanied by European Forest Week celebrations. The most important event of the Session will be a meeting of ministers responsible for the forests of the pan-European region. At first, the meeting was supposed to deal with whole proceedings against Poland in relation to the Forest. Probably, still in September, the Court will decide whether the prohibition is maintained.
