In the past two years, the national parks in Poland received in total PLN 112 million. Quite big support has been granted to two parks in the Podkarpackie province which are located next to forest districts of the Krosno RDSF: the Bieszczady NP and the Magurski NP. The subsidy came from the forest fund, that is the money earned by the State Forests mainly through the sales of wood.

Over the recent years the Bieszczady National Park has received subsidy from the forest fund of the State Forests of more than PLN 3.7 million, out of which over PLN 2.5 million this year alone.

The subsidy for national parks coming from the financial means earned by the State Forests increases year by year.

The projects involved: building true round roads, that is wooden pavements placed on extremely watery sections of extraction routes, repairing extraction routes, harvesting timber, adjusting species composition, preparing areas scheduled to stands renewals and thickenings.

The projects related to the forest conservation also received financial support. In  the Bieszczady National Park plantations were secured against deer, bark beetle traps were hang up, plantations  were cultivated and nest boxes were cleaned.

The State Forests also supported projects related to the improvement of infrastructure serving the visitors to the park. Tourists may already use  renovated or renewed benches and tables, as well as new walkways along the tourist trails.

Works also included securing the trails’ surroundings,  preventing soil erosion, removing trees which are located by the trails and pose a threat, and improving signposting of tourist routes.

Magurski National Park has received over PLN 3 million on projects related to silviculture, stand conversion on post-agricultural lands, regulation of species composition, timber extraction, conservation and amendment of extraction trails, cultivation of planting stock in nurseries, and also on protective treatment applied in forest plantations and sapling stands, on protecting them against game,  and also on crops cultivation.

The State Forests has also subsidized projects aimed at amending infrastructure and making the park more accessible to visitors, which involved building walkways, rest areas, bridges, renovation and maintenance of trails and keeping them safe by removing trees that pose a threat to the visitors.

In 2017, Magurski National Park has received from the forest fund over PLN 1 million on adjusting species composition, age structure, and trees density, but also on the protection of forest plantations and sapling stands against game, in a total area of 145 ha.

The SFs’ funds were also used for the amendment of road and extraction routes. Projects aimed at keeping safety on trails and roads, including mowing and removing shrubs from rest areas, trails and routes over the length of 141 km, were also financed by the State Forests.
