Joint actions towards the region development through the investment support are the main assumptions of a letter of intent signed on 2nd March by the Director-General of the State Forests and members of local governments in Hajnówka district.

Recently signed declaration results from Order No. 26 of May 2016 By its provisions the State Forests organizational units are obliged to participate in the implementation of joint infrastructure projects ‘to the benefit of forest management and activities related to it,  as well as projects affecting its implementation’.

Joint projects will particularly concern the implementation of the following investments:

  • Creating and developing forest infrastructure, including buildings and other objects related to forest management;
  • Creating and developing tourist, recreational, educational, or other facilities related to non-productive functions of forests;
  • Constructing fire towers;
  • Road alternation including exit ramps, bridges, level crossings and culverts.

The initiative is to increase functionality and attractiveness of those municipalities where the project will be implemented. Enterprises are to improve tourism potential with the use of natural advantages of the Białowieża Forest and its direct neighborhood.

Only this year, forest districts along with local governments will implement first investments. PLN 4.2 million will be allocated for infrastructure improvement. It means among other things more renovated roads and modernized tourist infrastructure in municipalities  within Hajnówka district, as.Czeremcha, Czyże, Hajnówka, Narew or Narewka.

The agreement implies cooperation within the scope of popularization of knowledge on forest environment and the profession and work of a forester, with special regard to non-productive forest functions and promotion of wooden construction, as one of the ways of hindering CO2 emission.
