Already on Monday, 9 October, the European Forest Week begins. This year it is organized and hosted by Poland.

This year’s EFW will be held under the slogan “Forests - our common good”. The celebration is shared with the 70th Joint Session of the UNECE Committee of Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) and the FAO European Forestry Commission (EFC) under the common name ’ Las 2017’ (Forest 2017).

The most important event will be the meeting of ministers who are responsible for forests in Pan-European region. On Monday, in Warsaw, during the round table conference of ministers and directors of national forest agencies, there will be held a discussion on supporting sustainable development and a model of forest functioning, in light of the Paris Agreement of 2015

Poland as a host of this year’s EFW will also organise four events related to the promotion of national forestry and sustainable development. The events will concern the Forest Carbon Farms and other development projects of the State Forests, which are the stimuli for the advancement of rural areas. Moreover, the Forest Research Institute will present the results of environmental and archaeological research obtained while implementing the project within the Białowieża Forest.

The European Forest Week has been held since 2008. During those few days (9-13 October this year) there are discussions on forestry and forest sector. Those few days devoted to forestry, are a great opportunity to promote sustainable forest management in Poland and Europe.

The State Forests, which are involved in this year’s EFW, organize educational training in forest districts, e.g. in Celestynów, Gdańsk, Oborniki Śląskie, Katowice and Świdnik.

The activities are open and everyone is welcome. In forest districts located near big cities, the participants will be familiarized with the issues related to the role of forests in carbon circulation and mitigating the climate change and in accordance with the provisions of the Paris Agreement.

Additionally, the exhibition on the natural  richness of Polish forests and the activities of Polish foresters to the benefit of nature conservation and the enhancement of biological diversity will be held from 9 October in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw under the title “For Forests, for People”.
